Backyard Sunset - originally sent 7.24.20

Beginning in April 2020, I began sending weekly texts to friends and family during the initial Covid lockdown. I was glad to have a purpose on Fridays of sending the painting and its story. This was originally sent July 24th.

The wicker chair on the patio beckons me to relax and enjoy the show. My feet are tired and I am exhausted. If I lay my head back, I may drift to sleep and miss it all. Just like a movie, I try to determine, which scene is my favorite of the night, snapping pictures along the way. The pinks are brilliant tonight, extending overhead and beyond. The sky darkens, and out comes the fireflies, reminding me of a favorite kids book, Sam and Gus. Their neon lights flashing so quickly I am unable to get a photo, imprinting the image in my brain. A bat flits back and forth beyond the fence. The landscape lighting clicks on and the mourning doves begin to roost in our spruces. 1,2,3,4….15.  Looking forward to tomorrow’s adventure, I head in before the mosquitoes arrive.

I welcome your thoughts or sharing of your own experiences. lauren
