What is Your Thought? - originally posted 7.17.20

Beginning in April 2020, I began sending weekly texts to friends and family during the initial Covid lockdown. I was glad to have a purpose on Fridays of sending the painting and its story. This was originally sent July 17th.

What’s in a picture? What thoughts and memories does this this painting evoke? Yours are likely very different from mine. Yesterday a customer was purchasing items for a trip to Georgia. She nodded in agreement when I asked her to eat some good southern food for me. Driving home I wondered, what food I would want on my first night down south - fried chicken with sausage gravy on a biscuit and buttermilk pie from Hominy Grill would be perfect. I ask the waitress to save a piece of pie before I order my meal. As the first bite enters my mouth, an  audible “mmmmm” unwittingly escapes. The herons in the pluff mud remind me of Shem Creek’s boardwalk, meaning we are purchasing shrimp to cook for dinner. This happens regularly on the $5 improv night at Theatre 99. Kleenex in hand, knowing I will laugh so hard I’ll need to keep running mascara at bay, I hope Brandi and Greg are part of tonight’s sets. A perfect day! My thoughts took many tangents, and I wonder where yours were led when you first saw the painting.

I welcome your thoughts or sharing of your own experiences. lauren
