Lemonade sipping season is here

|
I still feel the warmth of sunshine and the slight breeze on my face from the autumn day as we stood in front to the ancient chapel. Family weddings and baptisms still take place in the quaint stone building covering six generations of family. While listening to the stories of the olive grove, farm, and production, we walk through the trees - their silvery green leaves blowing in the wind. We come upon the building where the olives are pressed sitting next to the home where the family lives. An open area in front of the house has tables dressed in Provençale tablecloths encircled with chairs, more like a crooked oval. Our tour group is ready to sample artisan bread, olives, olive oil and lemonade made from water and elderberry. I can't wait to try experimenting with a recipe! Finally, something I like to drink, as wine is the usual offering everywhere we go.
The sun shines through the trees placing nuanced shadows on the limestone walls. I could enjoy this view all day while sipping my lemonade. As we listen to the owner's excitement explaining the process of olive oil production, I wonder if our third-generation family business can last another three generations. Will a great-great-grandchild still be selling and fixing bikes or whatever the business has evolved into fifty or sixty years from now? |
I welcome your thoughts or sharing of your own experiences. lauren
