I love it, but

Haven't we all heard, "My two-year-old could do that," while strolling through a museum or gallery. Abstract art is the culprit as many do not understand art that is not spelled out to them. Art is meant to connect with the viewer, though this doesn't require an understanding, it can be solely visceral. Likely, we will never know an artist's intent, so we cultivate our own due to our personal experiences. Whether we like a piece, abstract or realistic, is subjective.
There can be a sharp line of division between those who love abstract art and those who hate it. Isn't hating something commonplace when the item is not understood. I can't say I understand all abstract art, but I do love it while not always able to articulate why. Some pieces draw me in while others do not. This same subjectivity is true with other styles of art as well.
Creating abstract art is fun and can feel childlike and playful as one puts the paint on paper. Yes, maybe your toddler could have created the art, and you would enjoy the piece.
You all likely know by now I am a creature of wild and exotic dreams. One night a vision appears of a painting, and I decide to try it - just adding to the weirdness of me. You will derive your own ideas of the piece but now when I view it, I am reminded of a blood clot removed from my dad's brain last week. Isn't it amazing what doctors can do?
As I look at the soothing background colors, I hope he is having soothing dreams and reliving pleasant memories as he struggles to wake. |
I welcome your thoughts or sharing of your own experiences. lauren
