Daffodil season is here

|
I can't be the only one who dreams of the procession of blooming bulbs each spring from the earliest snowdrops through the May tulips. Anticipation helps me through our last weeks of winter. Weekly drives down Lakeshore providing an everchanging view. Please can we drive by the house with the red tiled roof, you know the one, to see their naturalized daffodils underplanted with short blue flowers. Planted all along their long driveway, at least two hundred yards of deliciousness - though someone in my car thinks messiness.
I never have enough extra daffodils in my yard to cut so I am thrilled to find them in the stores. How exciting to find the two-dollar bunches to brighten our Easter table. Of course, I need six bunches to properly fill my vase and the yellow dazzles beautifully. I knew the daffodils would be short lived, but I don't mind. As I move the vase to a new spot a few days later a hint of fragrance inches up my nose, one I never expected. Last year I read about the lovely scent of spring violets, also something I hadn't realized as I am not usually on the ground sniffing the flowers. Maybe I was in my toddler days.
I will enjoy every bud and bloom this spring, and though I think the yellow daffodils are lovely, I prefer other color options. White with apricot is one of my favorites so be on the lookout. Finding pleasure in such a simple thing makes my day and I hope it does for you too. |
