Walking the streets of Charleston at night is pure enchantment. Illuminated courtyards abound, and this one on Elliot street is one of my favorites. Peering through the ubiquitous wrought iron gate, the glow of a gas light beckons my eye. A long, narrow marble courtyard stretches the length of the property. Backlit for my pleasure, water cascades down what must be a twelve foot copper wall, its guardian, a massive urn topped with its ball topiary…so grand, yet so simple.
